Why You Need a Vision Statement

I’m a firm believer in the old adage, “What doesn’t get measured, doesn’t improve.” Without a direction, without a plan, what good are your visions? Every company should craft a vision statement that reflects a long term view of how they would like the world to be. A vision statement is a reminder of why we work so hard and what we are working for.

Your company’s vision statement differs from the company mission statement. The vision statement defines purpose in the terms of values. What is the “human value” in the mission statement? What do you, your customers, and stakeholders value most about HOW the mission will be achieved. What are your values? Where do you see the company in the future in terms of betterment to the community?

When you have a clear, succinct vision statement it will guide you in decision making and prove to be a source of inspiration.
