Graphic Enhancements

Graphic enhancements should not be left to artists alone. The person who writes copy should use graphic enhancements to add voice inflection, improve readability, and make the copy look easy to read. Graphic enhancement adds a personal touch and aids in formation of the double readership path.

Graphic enhancement may include (you'll have to use your imagination, blogger limits enhancements):

• Bullets
• Numbering (numbered lists)
Underline
Bold
• Varied type
• Highlighting
• Simulated/actual handwriting
• Boxes
• Asterisks *
• Subheadings

Graphic enhancements are crucial in long copy. Few individuals may read every word, but if you draw them in by highlighting the important words and phrases, you message is sure to get across. Try reading your ad or brochure all the way through. Now go back and read just the items with graphic enhancements. If your message is still there – you’ve done your job.
